What I believe

cropped-alaska_cruise1.jpgI believe that Jesus:

  • Is the only begotten son of God.
  • Created all things.
  • Was born of a virgin.
  • Lived a sinless life in order to be the perfect and eternal sacrifice for our sins.
  • Was crucified and rose to life on the third day.
  • Is sitting on his throne next to the Father in heaven.
  • Will return one day soon for his church (1st Thessalonians 4:17).

I believe that to be saved that we must:

  • Believe that Jesus is the son of God. (John 3:16-18, John 6:28-29, John 6:47, John 8:24)
  • Believe that Jesus was crucified for our sins and rose again. (Luke 24:45-47)
  • Be baptized in the Holy Spirit. (Mark 16:16)
  • Accept Jesus as Savior.  We need to ask God to forgive us of our sin in Jesus’ name and acknowledge him before others. (Luke 12:8-9, John 1:12-13)
  • Accept Jesus as Lord of our lives. This means that we need to repent of our sins. (Luke 13:3)
  • Obey Jesus (the Word of God) or at least attempt to do so.  (Mark 8:34-35, Luke 11:28)

The Word of God

I believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. The Bible is truly a supernatural book which can change the lives of those who read it.

Sanctify them in the truth: thy word is truth.
John 17:17

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
Romans 15:4

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2nd Timothy 3:16-17

We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2nd Peter 1:19-21

The Trinity

I believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons; that these are equal in every divine perfection, and that they execute distinct but harmonious purposes in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Matthew 28:19

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
John 1:1-4

God the Father

I believe in God, the Father, an infinite personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
John 3:16-17

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.
John 4:24

[Jesus said] And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
John 17:5

Jesus Christ

I believe in Jesus Christ, God ‘s only begotten Son, conceived in Mary by the Holy Spirit. I believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings. I believe that he died to pay for our sins, was resurrected after three days in the grave, and after showing himself to hundreds of people ascended into heaven where he intercedes for His people.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
Hebrews 1:2-3

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
1st John 1:7

The Holy Spirit

I believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin. The spirit teachs us to be righteous (right with God), and empowers all who believe in Jesus Christ. I believe that the Holy Spirit lives in every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
John 14:26

But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.
John 16:7-15

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
Romans 8:14-17

In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.
Ephesians 1:13-14

I also believe that every believer receives the Holy Spirit at the moment of the new birth. That is when accepting Christ Jesus and your personal savior and repenting (turn away from) of your sins. It is not a separate experience subsequent to the new birth.

However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
Romans 8:9

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
1st Corinthians 12:13

Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection
Romans 6:3-5

The ministry of the Holy Spirit, with respect to the body of Christ, is a unifying ministry.

Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.
Ephesians 4:3-7

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
1st Corinthians 12:12-14

Regeneration

I believe that all men are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore, under condemnation. I believe that those who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior are regenerated by the Holy spirit.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:12-13

Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
John 3:3,16-17

I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.
Acts 20:21

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
Ephesians 2:8-9

But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Titus 3:4-7

Christian Conduct

I believe that a Christian should live for the glory of God and the well-being others; that a Christian’s conduct should be blameless before the world; is a faithful steward of his possessions; and that he should seek to realize for himself and others, the full stature of maturity in Christ.
(II Corinthians 9:6-8; Ephesians 4:11-16; Philippians 2:14-16; Colossians 3:17-23; I Thessalonians 5:17-18.)

The End Times

I believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His Kingdom here on planet earth. I believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal contentment and intense joy of the righteous, and the endless suffering of the wicked.  I believe that Jesus will return to Earth in this generation.
(John 5:28-29; Revelation 20:1-15; II Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 25:31-46.)
